Pemanfaatan energi sinar matahari dapat dilakukan dengan mengubah energi cahaya matahari menjadi energi listrik menggunakan Solar Cell yang terbuat dari konduktor dan disimpan dalam penyimpanan termal oleh Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Surya (PLTS). Sumber energi adalah segala sesuatu yang dapat menghasilkan energi, baik secara langsung maupun melalui proses konversi atau transformasi (dalam Peraturan Pemerintah No. 79 tahun 2014 tentang Kebijakan Energi Nasional).<\/p>\n<p>Penggunaan energi cahaya matahari berdampak besar dalam penghematan energi fosil yang terus-menerus digunakan sebagai sumber energi utama dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Manfaat dari penggunaan energi terbarukan bukan hanya menghemat energi fosil saja, tetapi juga mengurangi polusi yang dihasilkan dari limbah dalam penggunaan energi fosil, seperti; minyak bumi, batu bara, dan gas.<\/p>\n<p>Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir Universitas Indonesia memanfaatkan penggunaan energi cahaya matahari guna penghematan dan pendukung sebagai kampus berkelanjutan terbaik di Indonesia. Dalam data PLTS UI Tahun 2022, Universitas Indonesia memiliki 18 Solar Cell yang tersebar di setiap fakultas dan lingkungan UI. Dalam setahun, jumlah daya yang dapat diproduksi PLTS UI mencapai 1.358.617 kWh. Hal ini mampu menghemat dan mengurangi penggunaan energi fosil yang suatu saat akan habis. Penggunaan energi baru terbarukan\u2014terutama memanfaatkan energi cahaya matahari dapat digunakan secara terus-menerus dan memiliki jangka panjang. Komponen PLTS hanya perlu pengecekan dan perbaikan secara berkala guna mengantisipasi kerusakan pada penggunaannya.
