Universitas Indonesia measures the amount of waste generated and recycled across the university More than 75 percent of organic waste produced in UI is processed to be reused. Almost all of the waste is reprocessed into compost. Periodically, as much as 50 percent of organic waste produced in each faculty is processed into compost through faculty or university composter UPS. The compost is then distributed to areas in UI and to external institutions to be used as fertilizer.
Universitas Indonesia collaborates with the Government of Depok in regards to waste management and recycling processes for the purpose of managing the waste in Universitas Indonesia. One of the implementations is 100% of organic waste found in the campus environment is recycled back into compost. Moreover, the compost is reused as fertilizer for plants in the UI.
